Finally there's a healthy alternative to eating on the go. The Salad Palace provides vegan and vegetarian salads, fruit and vegetable smoothies, and juices.
On August 25th the Town of Hamden and Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce helped celebrate the opening of the Salad Palace.
"It is my pleasure to welcome The Salad Palace to our wonderful Town. I am thrilled that Mr. Pittman has chosen to open his establishment here in Hamden, and I am confident that his success will serve as an example of Hamden's ever-expanding opportunities for small businesses throughout all of our Town's neighborhoods." stated Mayor Leng.
The Salad Palace Owner, Travis Pittman, faced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma head on in 2012. Nasal Carcinoma is a rare form of nose cancer that affects the nasal passage and throat. It is on only seen in approximately 2000 people a year. Cancer is a word that no one wants to hear and everyone fears.
During his cancer journey that included radiation Travis decided it was time to make some life changes. His diet consisted largely of processed foods and other toxic items. Travis also witnessed another member of his family lose their battle to cancer around the same time. He attributes his success in beating cancer to changing his diet.
They say when one door closes another opens. For Travis the health scare of cancer opened a new door and a new beginning. From this humbling beginning Travis began educating himself and other on healthy living. He began creating salads and smoothies in his mother's kitchen and delivering them to neighboring towns.
Today The Salad Palace operates at 23 Putnam Avenue in Hamden, CT.
