Fluent to Open at Highwood Square

New Business Comes to Highwood Square

Fluent Marries Art With Retail

A new business is about to open at Highwood Square at 943 Dixwell Avenue, directly adjacent to Burger King at the corner of Morse and Dixwell.

Fluent is more than a clothing company. It is a community that thrives on creativity and seeks to help support rising artists from around the country. Fluent collaborates with a different artist each month and print limited clothing lines developed from these collaborations. One month might be a graffiti artist from New York and the next month could be a musician from Los Angeles. At Fluent, they define artists by those who “Express Themselves and Inspire Others.”

“This looks to be a really interesting addition in Hamden. The Creative Economy is under the radar but engages the younger generation of consumers and those who want to be part of a community. The location of a business like this is extremely important and they seem to have found the perfect place”’ stated Dale Kroop, Director Economic Development and Neighborhood Revitalization.

An artist's community event will be held by Fluent App features Hana Haley (director and photographer) April 1st. The event is entitled "Selfie World vs. Photography,” and its main purpose is to teach pre-teen girls about the impact/pressure that self-portraiture might have on them in the modern era of excessive likes, social media presence, and a national trend to be not even popular but to be "famous". The objective of this event is that the attendees may leave with a different understanding of the social media world they live in and how they can navigate through a world of "selfies", "likes", and "comments" and how these things can affect their self-esteem. This event aims to empower young girls with information on these pressures and on the reality of the modern demands on their self-image, constantly questioned by social media.

The event would include an interactive photo shoot where attendees will model and also learn a brief photography lesson on their phones/other cameras. The girls will have an opportunity to shoot film that Hana will develop.

Fluent will open for retail sales on April 28th directly next door to Burger King near the corner of Morse St and Dixwell Avenue.
