Future Workers Visit Hamden Manufacturer for Job Readiness

Airline Accessories Service Company Provides Guidance

Many studies show that the most critical need facing employers, particularly manufacturers is a skilled workforce. As part of the Town of Hamden commitment to Workforce Readiness, participants from several programs at the ML Keefe Center got a chance to visit one of Hamden’s successful manufacturing and reconditioning facilities, Airline Accessory Service Company at 455 Putnam Avenue.

Airline Accessory Service Company (AASCO) offers complete in house overhaul capabilities for air Turbine starters, starter control, environmental control, and anti-icing valves from leading aerospace manufacturers including Honeywell, Parker, Hamilton Sundstrand and more. Airline Accessory Service Company Galley Equipment capabilities include the repair, overhaul and modification of refrigerators, freezers, air chillers, conventional ovens, convection ovens, warmers, coffee makers and water boilers. AASCO is Factory Authorized to support the entire Sundstrand Corp Galley products.

Roughly 25 participants of Hamden’s Pathway to Work Program, the Adult Education ESL Program and Computer and Job Readiness class teachers were on hand for a tour of the business facilities, which was held on March 23rd, 2017. AASCO founder, Lance Blomberg described his story on how he built his business and what the production process is for the many services that they provide. Mr. Blomberg also outlined the skills and knowledge that is needed to work in the Aerospace Industry.

“I cannot stress strongly enough how important Workforce Development or Workforce Readiness is to the local economy. If we don’t assist companies with their employee needs, our economy will suffer. It’s that important. Our Workforce Cluster is a very active and engaged group of professionals that work with local industries such as Manufacturing and Health Care.”, stated Dale Kroop Director of Economic Development and Neighborhood Revitalization.

Mr. Kroop went on to thank the host of the tour as well as the coordinators of the programs.

“We are proud of businesses like Airline Accessories. We recruited them over 8 years ago with our incentive program and their business has grown in an industry (Aerospace) that one of the most successful industries in Connecticut’s economy. Our goal is to help them become part of the supply chain of that industry. Also Hamden has really great Workforce Programs such as Pathways to Work, ESL and the Computer Lab. I would like to thank Luz Gonzalez (Coordinator), Andrea Pozzuoli (ESL) and teachers Rissa Webb and Zoila Brown for working so hard with members of our community.
