Town Expands Relationship With Albertus Magnus College

Employee Tuition Discounts, Internships and Collaborations

Roughly one year ago, Hamden began a relationship with Albertus Magnus College focused on baseball. Albertus now plays collegiate baseball at the newly rebuilt Rochford Field. On Monday night the Hamden Legislative Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement with Albertus Magnus College for the two parties to collaborate on several new areas including;

·         10% Discount of tuition for Hamden Employees at Albertus Magnus College.

·         Promotion of internship opportunities within the Town Departments

·         Collaboration on Career Fairs

·         Lunch and Learn Sessions for Town employees

In addition to these benefits, the Town of Hamden is working with Albertus on other collaborations including the exploration of STEM scholarships for graduates of Hamden High School. The programs will begin in the coming months and the tuition discount will begin in the fall of 2017 semester.

“Hamden’s relationship with Albertus Magnus has certainly blossomed over the past year, and I truly expect these new agreements to further expand our already healthy and productive relationship. Albertus Magnus is a great asset to the Town of Hamden, and I sincerely look forward to the many positives these new collaborative efforts will produce for University students, Town Employees, and Hamden residents alike.” said Mayor Curt Balzano Leng.

Albertus Magnus College offers more than 50 undergraduate majors, minors and concentrations, with pre-professional preparation; ten graduate programs in accounting, art therapy, business administration, criminal justice, education, fine arts in creative writing, human services, leadership, liberal studies, and management and organizational leadership.

The collaboration of educational institutions with the community is very important for the future of Hamden. “This is an economic development issue as much as anything else. When we collaborate with schools that have high retention rates, we hope to insure that our educated workforce will settle in Hamden as baby boomers retire. Graduates of Albertus, Southern CT State University, Gateway Community College and other area schools are the leaders and tax payers of tomorrow, people that will buy houses, open businesses and raise their families”, stated Dale Kroop, Director of Economic Development and Neighborhood Revitalization.
